Trans Youth on CHIP!

We need your help ASAP reaching out to trans youth on CHIP.

On Wednesday, October 18th, the State Senate Banking and Insurance Committee suddenly advanced a Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) re-authorization bill with an amendment BANNING healthcare coverage for trans children and teens.

This cruel action would be devastating to young trans Pennsylvanians and their families who are on CHIP. Since July 2016, CHIP has included coverage for gender-related healthcare, including medically necessary mental health services and hormones. If this amended bill becomes law, it would cut off trans youth on CHIP from vital healthcare. That is unconscionable.

It is a standard practice for the General Assembly to re-authorize CHIP. However, this time, an Amendment A03796 was added to ban this coverage. More information on this action can be found here on the Keystone Student Voice.

You can view the amended bill with the ban on trans healthcare here.

It is highly urgent that we connect QUICKLY with trans youth and their families who are on CHIP.

Please share this form far and wide so that we can connect with them as soon as possible. The State Senate needs to hear the stories of young trans Pennsylvanians.

We will not share your name or location unless you later give us permission to do so. For now, we need to start letting legislators know there are trans youth in their district who are on CHIP. We will follow up with you when you complete the form.
