Pennsylvania LGBT Youth Leaders Take on Washington DC

Washington, DC— Seven LGBT leaders from the Pennsylvania Student Equality Coalition (PSEC) took the drive into Washington DC on Wednesday night for 24 hours of meeting and lobbying. Only 3 weeks after it was established, this is the first organized advocacy event for the organization.

The trip kicked off Thursday morning as the leaders met with the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE), followed by meetings with the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF) and Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). During these meetings the youth activists learned about their organizations and strategized ways to improve the new organization to be as effective as possible.

Following these three meetings the PSEC took to the streets to lobby their legislatures. Entering offices such as Senator Robert Casey, Senator Patrick Toomey, and most of the PA delegation of the US House. Overall the experience was a great glimpse into what will come for this organization. PSEC has hit the ground running with enthusiasm and will for change.
